| Bemerkungen: | RC 2 - Artificial Eye Uzak (Distant) is about the encounter between a melancholic and obsessive middle-aged photographer - Mahmut, and his cousin an unemployed country boy - Yusuf, who comes to Istanbul to find a job on a ship. The taciturn, parasitic young man played by the director's usual actor Mehmet Emin Toprak, finds himself encroaching into the closed and colourless world of his cousin. 'A wondrously incisive study of the wintry realities of modern urban life, blessed with delight- fully dry deadpan comedy, superb camerawork (by Ceylan himself), and lovely laconic per- formances.' Geoff Andrew UZAK was highly acclaimed by the international press at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003. The film was awarded both the Grand Prix and the Best Actor prize which was shared between the two leads Muzaffer Ozdemir and Mehmet Emin Toprak.
