Inhalt: Drei Jahre nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg sind die meisten deutschen Kriegsverbrecher bereits abgeurteilt worden. Doch nun kommt es in Nürnberg noch zu einem weiteren Prozeß gegen vier Richter, die mittels ihres Amtes zur Endlösung beigetragen haben. Doch sowohl der aus dem Staaten hinzugezogene Richter Haywood (Spencer Tracy) als auch der zwangsverpflichtete Verteidiger Rolf (Maximilian Schell) sehen sich einem Interessenwandel gegenüber. Die Deutschen wollen ihre Vergangenheit verdrängen, die Alliierten kümmern sich lieber um den Kalten Krieg. Und schließlich war das dritte Reich nur eine Sache weniger. Doch kann man deswegen den Prozeß als weniger wichtig ansehen?
