Inhalt: Der gefeierte Hypnotiseur Alex Gregor (Lon Chaney jr.) will just einem renitenten Zuschauer seine Kunst am lebenden Objekt demonstrieren, als dieser in der Trance plötzlich verstirbt. Halb schuldbewußt löst er seinen Vertrag mit seiner Assistentin Maura (Evelyn Ankers) und nimmt eine Stelle im Wachsfigurenkabinett seiner Freundin Valerie Monet (Tala Birell) an, die eifersüchtig verfolgt wie Alex sich mit ihrer Nichte Nina (Elena Verdugo) anfreundet. Nach einem Blackout von Alex ist Valerie plötzlich spurlos verschwunden und die Polizeit sieht den Hypnotiseur als Mordverdächtigen. Tatsächlich jedoch basiert das auf einem Plan von Alex' Manager George Keene (Milburn Stone) und dem plastischen Chirurg Rudi Poldan (Martin Kosleck), der für Valerie die Wachspuppen herstellt...
